Dance Gavin Dance back with Jonny Craig and Jon Mess?

UPDATE #1: Confirmed.  Jonny Craig has returned as lead vocalist of Dance Gavin Dance.  Full article here.

It began a few months back when Dance Gavin Dance announced they would be co-headlining a tour with Emarosa, famously fronted by ex-DGD singer Jonny Craig.  The tour, aptly titled “Squash The Beef,” came as a surprise to most due to Craig’s reportedly controversial exit from his former band.  Forums everywhere wondered if Jonny would sing a song or two with his old buddies.  To make matters more interesting, ex-DGD screamer Jon Mess has appeared onstage with Emarosa recently to perform “Casablanca” during their encores.  Still, at this point it seemed like idle chatter.

Then the weirdness began.  Almost a month ago, DGD guitarist Zac Garren posted a video on Youtube titled “Victoria’s Secret Band.”  The video, while blurry, is of Dance Gavin Dance’s original line-up, including Craig, Mess, and former bassist Eric Lodge.  Here’s that video for your gossiping pleasure:

While the speculation ensued immediately after the video was posted, band members said it was nothing and that the group just jammed together for fun.  With the success of their self-titled album and Happiness, there seemed to be no reason to think the original line-up would reform.

But things just got crazy.

11 hours ago, Jon Mess said via Twitter: “dbm part 2 is real.”  “DBM part 2″ is a reference to the band’s debut full-length, Downtown Battle Mountain.

Jonny Craig quickly repliedRT @JonMess: dbm part 2 is real. Gonna be fireeeeeee”

No other information has been released, and Johnny and Jon are known to be jokers.  Still, the evidence is piling up, and things are looking good for DBM2.

  • That would be pretty rad, Happiness was godawful

  • Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I’m not much of a fan of Happiness. Jonny Craig is a great singer, and his vocals will definitely help DGD. Their old stuff was a lot better.

  • Not many Happiness fans in the house. While I never saw the original DGD, and would love the chance to, I’m a bit worried about what this could mean for Kurt Travis. The guy came in, replaced one of the best singers in music, and succeeded. DGD has evolved with Kurt, and while I like Downtown Battle Mountain more than Happiness, I’m a pretty big fan of self-titled.

  • I definitely have to agree with Jack. I love S/T (and I did enjoy happiness) so much, and love Kurt on DGD now. While I am 100% looking forward to new tunes by then with the Jonny/Jon combo, I definitely don’t want it to be permanent. Which I don’t believe it will be, Jonny still has Emarosa and doesn’t want to leave, in my opinion. Old DGD will never REFORM, but it will be nice to have another record with them on it.
