Mind Equals Blown

Everybody put on your helmets and military jackets! The new Kill Hannah album, entitled Wake Up the Sleepers, came out Tuesday, September 29. With nothing fresh since 2006′s Until There’s Nothing Left of Us, it was a pleasant surprise to see this band resurface.

But is this album truly something new? I mean, if you’re into the stereotypical new age electronica stuff, then yeah, it’s something you should definitely get a hold of. The first track “Radio” is typical. It’s been done before, and it’s overtired. There is actually a pretty sweet guitar solo in “Strobe Lights” (from which the album got its name) that kept my attention to the end.

Decent dose, but it’s a tad boring. Mat Devine‘s voice continues to have that innocent, bordering-feminine tone that every Kill Hannah and Pierce the Veil fangirl shrieks for. “Snowblinded” will melt hearts with these lyrics; [I just want you to know you that I think you’re beautiful/I just need you to know how much I care/you are the air that I breathe]. “New York City Speed” automatically makes you want to move. All of the beats on this album are extremely catchy and will leave you humming along. It’s very charming.

Wake Up the Sleepers is something to pop in if you are getting ready to go out, but it’s nothing to be taken seriously.  It is the same generic “scene kid,” cutesy music that makes you smile for a moment and then move on to Annotations of an Autopsy, or something of equal brutality. Basically, everything on Wake Up the Sleepers is sweet, but at the risk of sounding cliché, I am still snoring.
