Ronnie James Dio passes away at 67

Metal legend, Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Dio, Heaven and Hell, etc) lost his battle to stomach cancer early this morning. An internet rumor started last night that he had passed, but his wife and manager, Wendy Dio confirmed otherwise, stating he was “doing poorly, but not dead yet”. On Ronnie’s official site, the following statement was made.

“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

She then asks any fans to “leave your condolences on facebook”

Ronnie was 67 years old, and was truly a legend. Metal would not be what it is today without him.
