New Underoath Song is Heavy.
The first date of Cool Tour 10 was the first show that Underoath had played in nearly 3 months, after being in the studio recording the follow up to 2008′s Lost in the Sound of Seperation. It is also the first show that the band has played without founding member, drummer and vocalist Aaron Gillepse. Many people were wondering how Underoath would progess and sound without Aaron, and I have to say, even with this being their first show back after 3 months, and with as many technical difficulties as they experienced, Underoath is back….and maybe better than ever.
First off, I’d like to talk about the new song. While I was only able to record the last minute of it, the first part of the song is what sold me. The first 10 seconds of the new Underoath song are the heaviest I have ever heard the band…ever. It verges on death metal with blast beats and chaotic guitar mashed with a deep growl from Spencer. I was stunned. Underoath is clearly continuing to expand themselves as a band and try new things, as they always have. The rest of the song was more along the lines of Lost in the Sound of Separation, atmospheric yet intense, and well paced.
Tim and Spencer have taken over the job of the clean vocals, once held by Aaron, and they do a pretty good job at it. Obviously no one will be able to match Aarons signature voice which helped make Underoath who they are today, but Tim and Spence do a good job of filling his absent shoes. Stand in drummer Daniel Davidson was also spectaular. Even with as many thecnical problems the band ran into, they were great live.
Underoath is back, and even with the loss of Aaron, stronger than ever.

obviously you don’t know of their earlier stuff, their first 2 albums were pretty much death metal albums…
