Music can often be the perfect complement to a particular pastime or hobby. It’s kind of like finding the right beer to go with a burger, or the best color tie to go with a dress shirt – the right match can make the experience better instantaneously. As long as we’re talking music though, I’ve lately been playing a lot of Magic: The Gathering to the tune of Spotify playlists and handpicked albums by my fellow planeswalkers. Today, we’ll look at a few songs that make casting spells an interesting epic time from music’s view as a compliment to the intense activity that is Magic.
1. “March Of The Pigs” – Nine Inch Nails
If you like the Aggro element of Magic, this track is a perfect pacer for the racing of decks that seem to fill the standard format at the moment. Plus, this is one of my favorite Nine Inch Nails tracks.
2. “Schism” – Tool
I won’t try to say I’m the biggest Tool fan in the world, but I definitely get into the mood when the tension rises in a game of Commander – a format where I’ve had single games run past 90 minutes, a compliment to the generally lengthy cuts Tool has delved into over the years.
3. “Palms Read” – Protest the Hero
It’s Protest the Hero. Enough said.
