With less than one week to go until Halloween, it’s time to step up the eerie jams and embrace the holiday spirit. While listening to Taylor Swift is enough to send shivers up anybody’s spine, there’s darker stuff out there to get you into a festive mood.
Today’s Halloween, with its inedible candy corn and slutty Game of Thrones costumes, seems to be a remix of ye olde All Hallow’s Eve. In honor of repurposing an existing tradition, here are three remixes to dance your way into a spooky spirit.
1. “Vampire Nightclub” – Art Department Feat. Seth Troxler (Max Chapman Edit)

If you look up while you’re at a nightclub and it seems as if you’re surrounded entirely by vampires, you’re probably doing it right. In fact, when you come to this realization, don’t forget to text me your location – I’ll come running.
According to Merriam-Webster, “vampire” is rooted in the Dark Age Germanic word vampyr, meaning “thirst created after dancing to techno.” And Max Chapman will turn you into quite the traditional vampire with this tech house tune.
2. “Kernkraft 400″– Zombie Nation (ÉR édit)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/226731528″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”100″ iframe=”true” /]
Spoiler alert: Zombie Nation is not a conglomeration of zombies who get together in order to make some rad dance music. It’s just a really good name chosen by a German artist a couple decades ago.
This ÉR remix of the 1999 classic “Kernkraft 400” slaps with a cheeky nostalgia. Be forewarned that it’s best to not play this on a Macbook. Instead, try throwing on this remix when you’re in the third circle of hell. In fact, when you get there, don’t forget to text me – super down for that, too.
3. “Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff” – Deadmau5 (Sub Focus Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/30306276″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”100″ iframe=”true” /]
Dead mice? Ghosts? Stuff? The original track is already befitting an October 31 play due to its amped-up organs and commercial appeal. But, despite witnessing a nightmarish performance at Treasure Island Music Festival last week, Rob Swire’s vocals have been difficult to shake. Sub Focus’ remix does an excellent job of enhancing the danceability of this classic banger.
For added holiday fun, drum ‘n’ bass-themed couples costumes are nearly priceless: You can dress up as the DJ, and make your significant other spit fire as the MC. This costume pairs especially well with massive amounts of alcohol.
