Voodoo Music + Arts Festival is more than a festival, it’s truly an experience. It’s known for many things including the ballin’ food, large scale art, and a lineup that never disappoints. This Halloween weekend will be shared with over 65 artists, over a span of three days, in one of the best southern destinations in the country. Here are the top 5 artists hidden away in the lineup worth some of your time this weekend.
5. Saint Motel
These guys have been all over this summer at festivals and are currently on their own tour through December then they head to the U.K.. Their latest album debuted the same day as Lady Gaga’s, October 21st titled saintmotelevision. These guys are one of the first to debut a 360 degree music video, which you can see here. If you’re looking for something to fill your Arctic Monkeys dry spell, these guys are definitely a band to look for with their funky 80’s feel and clever lyrics.
4. Cheat Codes
Cheat Codes released their first songs in 2015 and have continued into 2016 with the latest being “Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On)”, but have yet to give us a full-length album, something you’ll realize we need after you hear them. They signed to 300 Entertainment just this past September, which gives us hope that it’ll be in the works soon. In the past year they’ve toured with The Chainsmokers, made Spotify’s #1 on the United Sates and Global Top Viral 50 playlist, and gained over 300 million streams of their song “Sex” with Kriss Kross Amsterdam. If this doesn’t give you the idea they’re about to blow up I don’t know what will.
3. Sir the Baptist
Sir the Baptist hails from the South Side of Chicago and is the son of a Christian Preacher and Mission Ambassador, which needless to say makes him a very unique artist. This music is some of the most real material you’ll hear all year with remnants of a church sermon coming out as spitting rhymes on the street to anyone that’ll listen and it’s more than worth listening to. He’s more than progressive, he’s borderline revolutionary in bringing all things sacred to a world of all things damned.
If you’ve never heard of Snakehips, you may have heard of Hype Machine, where they gained experience doing remixes for Banks, The Weeknd, Wild Belle and many more. Their debut single came out in 2014 titled, “Days with You”, which features Sinead Harnett. Just two years later their top hit on Spotify, “Cruel”, have over 36 million listens. They’ve been working with some big names in the last year including Tinashe, Chance the Rapper, Anderson .Paak, and even Zayn Malik of One Direction. Here’s the song with Zayn:
1. Anderson .Paak
Anderson .Paak is a lot like Tyler Durden in Fight Club in the scene where it’s narrated that Tyler is a leader that walks through the shadows of the crowd. In the last year he’s worked with Schoolboy Q, The Game, T.I., Mac Miller, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. If you think that’s impressive, he also performed on not one, not two, but six songs on Dr.Dre’s album Compton. He is now signed to Dr.Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment label and shows no signs of slowing down.
