I think it is safe to say preliminary work for a new I Killed The Prom Queen album has probably begun.
For those who don’t remember, IKTPQ called it quits in 2007, due to the departure of Ed Butcher and Jona Weinhofen (Current Bring Me The Horizon guitarist), as well as trouble filling the vocalist position. In May 2008 they decided to play the “Say Goodbye” farewell tour with their final show being on June 8th, 2008. After assuming to have been broken up for over a year, Jona Weinhoffen announced in an interview with Blunt Magazine, that the band was not actually broken up, but instead on the oh so dreaded “Indefinite Hiatus”, so each member could “Do their own thing and grow as musicians”. Jona also stated that he “hoped to record a new I Killed The Prom Queen album in the next 12–18 months.”
That was back in 2008. Jump forward to 2010 and things start to get interesting. As we all know now, Jona is a guitarist for deathcore juggernauts Bring Me The Horizon, who are currently in the studio recording the much anticipated follow up to Suicide Season. Looking for updates regarding that, I eventually stumbled upon Jona’s Myspace page and to my surprise, this was the heading:
- Jona Weinhofen *Writing 2 albums!!*
Interesting. We all know Bring Me The Horizon is currently working on a new record…but why would he be writing two? A quick look at his ‘About Me’ gave us this:
- “My name is Jona Weinhofen. Im 24 years old and i currently play guitar for Bring Me The Horizon and I Killed The Prom Queen.”
So…according to his myspace he is currently play guitar for two bands. He is also in the process of writing two records. We know one is BMTH, is the other a new IKTPQ? I was curious so I started looking around. Nothing on the I Killed The Prom Queen Myspace about an upcoming record. Nothing on Metal Blades site regarding any recent IKTPQ activity. Then, I came across the I Killed The Prom Queen Facebook page, which yielded interesting results. Active status updates have included:
To me, this seems like evidence that some solid groundwork for a new I Killed The Prom Queen album is being laid. Jona clearly says hes currently writing two different albums, and recent updates from the IKTPQ Facebook hint towards some activity this year. Does this mean we can expect an official announcement of a new album sometime soon? Only time will tell, but it looks to me like us Prom Queen fans will be getting some exciting news in the not-so-distant-future.
