3 of the Week: May 5th

By David Barnes · On May 8, 2017

May 5th was a busy day for music everywhere. Musicians and bands are gearing up for the summer touring season by releasing new music to rock in the sun. Whether you’re into hip-hop, emo, post-hardcore, or anything in-between, this week has something something for you. Each one of these acts are touring in support of their new releases. If you hear anything you like be sure to check their tour schedules so you don’t miss your date. Here’s three of my favorite tracks released this week.

A Lot Like Birds – “Infinite Choices”

Sacremento rockers A Lot Like Birds traded in their schizophrenic post-hardcore roots in favor of a new groovy emo style. Their new album DIVISI has zero screaming vocals and a shift a new emphasis on hooks. They wear it well though, as the new record is as anthemic as it is cathartic. “Infinite Choices” has one of the album’s best choruses, a soaring moment that begs your lips to sing along.

Logic – “Killing Spree”

Logic‘s third album, Everybody, is an ambitious project, something we have come to expect from the Maryland-born rapper. Instead of outer space, Logic takes the listener to the afterlife for an honest look at the prejudices of modern America. This song is one of the album’s only straight-forward bangers and sounds amazing with the car windows down.

At The Drive-In – “Call Broken Arrow”

Post-hardcore legends At The Drive-In have returned with their brand new album in•ter a•li•a. Whether or not the record lives up to the hype is a matter of personal taste, but there’s no denying frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s mixed voice crooning and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s driving guitar tone. “Call Broken Arrow” shows a good mix of old identity and new influence. It boasts a soulful chorus that beats like the incoming summer heat.
