The Wonder Years, Have Mercy, Oso Oso, and Shortly stopped by Long Island’s Paramount Theater last week in support of The Wonder Years’ fifth studio LP, Sister Cities.
Shortly kicked off the night with a somber and beautiful set, touching fans as she sang her deeply personal songs. She was followed by Oso Oso, an upbeat group of Long Island natives that had their friends and fans on their feet.
Have Mercy took the stage next, balancing their gut-wrenching songs with lighthearted banter and a bottle of wine being passed around between members. The music itself is relatable and a bit heartbreaking, but the bands’ energy kept the mood upbeat.
The Wonder Years’ headlining set kicked off with a few tracks from Sister Cities that showed a new, more mature side of the former pop-punk powerhouse. However, the refined sound and added depth didn’t stop the band from playing old fan favorites like “Melrose Diner.”
