With the recent battle between Drake and Meek Mill, the topic of ghostwriting has fans debating whether letting someone else write your lyrics is acceptable in hip-hop, considering how many rappers constantly emphasize their “realness” or authenticity in their rhymes.
In July, Meek took to Twitter and accused the OVO rapper of not writing all his lyrics, which later fueled a very heated rap battle with memes, more vicious tweets and diss records. While the general consensus says the battle concluded in Drizzy’s favor when he dropped “Back To Back,” the conversation still lives.
Florida-based rap group All My Homies spoke to Mind Equals Blown and discussed their opinions on the matter. The collective also spoke on writing songs in a group setting, whether there are egos in the clique as well as personifying rap lyrics.
