The world of electronic music is a bustling scene of old and new artists in an ever-changing soundscape. Whether they’ve molded their sounds with ambient, hip-hop, or jazz roots, or define their atmospheres with soothing or dark styles, there’s an array of musicians fighting to make a name for themselves — on Soundcloud and beyond. Because the underground has so many talented artists (and the roster is growing by the day), we thought we’d share a few sleepers to keep an eye out for.
With his first project coming out in early 2014, CharlesTheFirst has come a long way in his music career. This young artist has been hard at work to put out his last three albums with his own unique electronic sound. The music he makes could be compared to an electronic lullaby being received through a fuzzy antenna radio. He has made waves in the music scene by helping carve out the chill electronic genre and will be a force to be reckoned with as his career blossoms and explodes.
Tipper is an artist that stands the test of time when it comes to EDM. With his career starting back in the late ’90s, Tipper is a true veteran in the electronic music scene — even if still vastly underrated. Like the other artists in this list, he has defined his own sound, which has evolved over time. With a slow rise build up into a cacophonic symphony of every sound imaginable, Tipper takes a unique place in the electronic genre.
Peekaboo might be the newest artist on this list with his career beginning just a few years back in 2016, but he is by no means someone to overlook. This artist has made waves with a unique style of hypnotic beats paired with moments of dubstep bliss. He straddles the line between ludicrous head-banging and casual head-nodding with his beats. It’s muted hardcore dubstep at its best.
Following firmly in the jazz-funk-rock EDM genre, Marvel Years takes after artists such as Grizz, Pretty Lights, and Big Gigantic. His sound is the harmony of live jazz and rock as it gets a heart transplant from an electronic DJ. With such a large audience finding the joys in electronic fusion genres, Marvel will be here to stay — and continue to sprinkle funk and jazz into our daily lives.
G Jones is the most undefined artist on this list. With a very experimental attitude toward his music, G Jones has created a whole spectrum of sound. In his past work, he has remixed the iconic Pallet Town song from Pokémon, as well as introducing non-traditional sounds into his music, like wood scrapping. This level of experimentation and creativity makes him a very unique artist that you cannot sleep on.
