The Scoop: Against Me! bassist Andrew Seward announced on the band’s website Thursday that he has left the band. While Seward was not a founding member of Against Me!, he played with the band for 10 years. He joined following the band’s landmark 2002 record Reinventing Axl Rose. You can read his official statement below.
I’ve left AM!. No drama here. I reached a point where I need to focus on other things. Respect to Laura and James. The last 10 years ruled. -Andrew
The post was accompanied by statements from singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace and guitarist James Bowman. The band is set to release their sixth studio album Transgender Dysphoria Blues later this year.
The Spin: While Seward was not a founding member, he was an integral part of the Against Me! sound, as well as the band’s chemistry. His enthusiastic and energetic presence at live shows is sure to be missed by all Against Me! fans. The effect of Seward’s leaving is compounded by the departure of drummer Jay Weinberg last December. Fans will certainly be anticipating who Grace and Bowman choose to fill the band’s rhythm section.
The Question: How do you think Seward’s departure will affect the band? Let us know in the comments below!
