The Scoop: Kevin Devine is streaming a new song over at The Village Voice. The track, “Geissen”, is the first new music Devine has put out since 2013’s Bubblegum and Bulldozer, and is the B-side of Volume 2 of the Deviynl splits series.
The Spin: Devine has long been one of my favorite songwriters, and “Geissen” only solidifies that claim. It’s falls into the quiet, sparse realm of his discography, solely featuring his voice and an acoustic guitar, accompanied by a haunting synth line that adds an atmospheric touch. It’s reminiscent of all the reasons I came to love Devine’s music in the first place, and there’s really nothing more I could ask from it. This whole 7″ series is a really interesting for him to share music with us while exposing his listeners to new artists such as Meredith Graves, who’s first solo single is the A-side of this record.
