Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd are two artists with a close friendship. Spoken about in an interview with Pitchfork and with a spot on the The Weeknd’s recent Starboy album on “Stargirl Interlude,” it was only a matter of time before the two artists made a formal collaboration.
Del Rey’s title track for her forthcoming album, “Lust For Life” sounds very much like her previous aesthetic with The Weeknd integrating his falsetto into the haunting song. The video takes place upon a black and white Los Angeles backdrop with both the artists sitting on top of the famed Hollywood sign. Del Rey stands out as the only one in color.
Coupled with her first single from the album, “Love“, themes of youth and nostalgia are heavy components. The work of her previous albums created a vintage, almost tragic character in search of and broken by love. This video looks to be a projection of a fantasy as noted at the end with Del Rey looking down upon the scene.
