It’s been almost three years since Linkin Park has released their harder-edged, rock album, The Hunting Party. Throughout the almost 20 year history of the band, they have forged to grow and venture out with every release. Sometimes this meant expanding on the foundation that they made, sometimes it meant to tap into something a little bit more mainstream.
The band is back with their new single, ‘Heavy,’ also featuring Kiiara and the song itself has a base with singer Chester Bennington going back and forth between verses singing about holding on to emotional weight. ‘Heavy’ tunes back the guitars for a more atmospheric tone that balances electronics, keyboards, and percussion. It will be interesting to see how long time fans will react to the single given it’s more mainstream premise.
Additionally, Linkin Park has announced their new album, One More Light which will be released on May 19th via Warner Bros. Records.
Coincidentally, this will also be the ten year anniversary of the band’s third album, 2007’s Minutes to Midnight. This album was the first indication of a shift of their sound ranging from their rock and electronic fused template from the two previous albums, 2000’s Hybrid Theory and 2003’s Meteora and more alternative rock.
