As MEB reported and AltPress confirmed, ex-Tides Of Man vocalist Tilian Pearson will be filling in as Emarosa‘s vocalist while Jonny Craig participates in a detox program in Los Angeles. Pearson made his debut with the band last night at Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh, and attendee Zack Lloyd shot some HQ video of the event.
“A Toast To The Future, Kids!”
Based on this video alone, listeners should come to two conclusions, Tilian is a heck of a singer, and Tilian is a much different singer than Jonny. While arguing who’s more talented would be a frivolous exercise, the two’s stylistic differences are noticeable when one sing’s the other’s tracks. Pearson hits all the notes, though they aren’t as pleasant in this register as when Jonny sings it.
“The Past Should Stay Dead”
Aside from his timing faults in the intro (cut the guy some slack, he’s filling in on late notice), Tilian sounds much stronger here. The higher register used throughout the song is much more in Pearson’s comfort range, and it shows. On Relativity, Jonny spent much more time straining his voice and going all out, while the self-titled record was much more diverse in vocal approach. As these videos show, it’s likely Tilian will have no issue performing the old stuff and will have mixed results with the newer tracks.
