MEB has another premiere this week – this time hailing from Nashville, Tennessee , with a band called Bryan Howell and The Standalones. The indie rock act has an upcoming album called Take The Risk that will be released on August 5th.
Here’s what Howell had to say about the song below:
“There were a few things that were crystallizing together as I wrote this. I had just that basic line of the chorus first, and then I had that kind of “ticking clock” opening riff that just seemed to express all this nice tension and anticipation. It’s about the wild freedom and promise of going out on Saturday night, that really exciting and hyper-real time where anything can happen and what starts off modestly can become a crazy, wonderful detour of an adventure. It’s a kind of “hello, I’m the one you’re looking for” bit of destiny, as confident or arrogant as that may sound. I wanted to be kind of ambiguous as to who I was singing to on this–Is it a lonely person?
Someone who just had a bad breakup? Someone who had a rough week at work? A member of the audience for a show? A girl? The reason is all these people can go out on Saturday night and cut loose and maybe get some kind of healing or relief or just have a great time. Frequently in our live shows we open with it, and for the album it was the only way to start things off, a kind of “Hey, welcome to the promise of my world. Forget your problems and what in your past has been dragging you down. Step in, buckle up and let’s go.”
