UPDATE #1: CONFIRMED…kinda. Scroll to bottom.
UPDATE #2: Well now they’re just screwing with us. Vocalist/bassist Brendan Brown has joined the fun, and Southall has done even more teasing. Scroll to bottom.
Update #3: TwitPic Evidence.
What a cataclysmic event this would be. Today Brian Southall suggested via his Twitter account that The Receiving End Of Sirens are working on new songs.
The Tweet in question…
12:00 pm Sept. 2 – “tracking guitars, This Really Epic Original Song i wrote with some friends a few months ago”
So let’s backtrack. “A few months ago” would seem to lead us to May’s Skatefest 2010 Festival, featuring a one-off reunion show by the entire line-up, including the the return of original singer/guitarist/songwriter Casey Crescenzo, now in The Dear Hunter.
A full blown reunion would seem unlikely to me due to the band members’ other obligations. Casey Crescenzo is more than happy with The Dear Hunter, selling lifetime fan-club memberships that grant access to any show (though Crescenzo’s participation isn’t a deal breaker if Southall returns to reform The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi line-up). Drummer Andrew Cook currently plays with A Rocket To The Moon, who’s booked on tour with Hanson and All Time Low through November. In the strangest post-TREOS move, guitarist Nate Patterson was announced a week ago as a member of Black Cards, Pete Wentz’s new band.
Cook added to his two cents via Twitter with a reply to Southall:
5:00 pm Sept. 2 – “That’s Real Effing Outstanding Son! @briansouthall”
My prediction is that the long-awaited TREOS DVD will be coming soon. Along with video of the shows, a live album could release with a special bonus: a new TREOS song. It seems more feasible than a full album and would give fans something extra for the years it’s taken to get the DVD out.
Surely in the next few days we’ll hear more about this insanity. The gap between the hints and official announcement of Skatefest was less than a month, and I doubt the guys will take a full year to announce anything like Dance Gavin Dance‘s original line-up recently did.
UPDATE #1: Nick Patterson got in on the Twitter-action this morning and Southall tweeted his former bandmate back.
Obviously the band hasn’t congregated to one place to work on songs or record, as Patterson wants to hear the track. However, Patterson asking for the track should confirm that this is indeed a new song by The Receiving End Of Sirens.
UPDATE #2: Yet another band member has decided to tease the world. Brendan Brown, bassist/vocalist of TREOS, and Southall traded a few tweets yesterday:
