Hozier, the Irish singer with a voice that brings fresh eroticism to the thought of attending Sunday Mass, has been making himself a household name almost as quickly as raking in Billboard Music Awards. Starting off a no-holds-barred (or no-bars-held? Points for music puns?) 2015-2016 world tour was the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival. Then with Edmonton’s Sonic Boom on September 5th, Calgary’s X-Fest on September 6th and Bumbershoot on September 7th, Hozier has already started his circuit playing to massive crowds.
This is an artist who, in 2014, had 2:1 odds against hitting it big this year. Only time will tell if Hozier ditches the Creed-frontman look and sell out to the glittery life of the rock music industry, à la Maroon 5. As of now, he is a musician with the pipes of male Aretha Franklin and the looks of a Kansas country boy ready to drive his tractor to the church of your choosing. But, judging from his performance at the Grammys, it at least looks like Hozier is here to stay.
