The Scoop: Members of the Westboro Baptist Church protested Las Vegas-based pop rock band Panic! at the Disco at their concert Sunday night in Kansas City.
The Spin: Instead of fighting fire with fire, the band responded by tweeting the following before playing their show:
“Today @WBCSays is going to picket us. For every member of WBC that actually shows up we will donate $20 to @HRC [the Human Rights Campaign],” using the hashtag #pride2014.
Following the band’s tweet, WBC responded by saying that they rallied together 13 individuals to protest. Panic then tweeted back, deeming their results as “weak,” and rounded up the $260 amount they promised to “an even $1,000.” In addition to this amount, the band also donated 5% of their merch sales from their show to HRC.
The Question: What do you think of how Panic! at the Disco responded to the protesters? Do you think WBC will try a different ploy against P!ATD in the future? Let us know in the comments below!
