The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio, had a definite mellow vibe as The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die took the stage. The visual aspect of the band is stunning, with eight members playing the regular–and not so regular–instruments of a rock band. An electric violin and inspiring keyboards adds a symphonic element, giving the music a full orchestra sound while maintaining the alternative sound they are known for.
Featuring extended musical intros and spectacular interludes, TWIABP had the audience swaying back and forth in time with the music as soon as they started. With each song, they incorporated new instruments, allowing each piece a distinctive sound. TWIABP is a band with heart in the emotion-filled lyrics and soul in the compelling music they play.
Co-headliners Pianos Become the Teeth followed with their own brand of music that can only be described as modern folk music. The crowd stood enchanted as the music enveloped them with passion and drama. The haunting melodies are enthralling and the audience responded to the stories of real life and real feelings that is a staple of Pianos Become the Teeth lyrics.
The only drawback of the show was the lighting for Pianos Become the Teeth. The stage was primarily in darkness and I came to see the band. At different points in the performance, a bank of spotlights behind the band blinded the audience, making them look away or shut their eyes. It was uncomfortable and very difficult to enjoy the sensational music. The few times the overhead lights illuminated the stage and I could actually see Pianos Become the Teeth, it was incredible.
