The second cut from Bring Me The Horizon’s upcoming album Sempiternal, “Antivist”, has hit the world wide web, and to be quite honest – the result is a mixed bag.
While musically this song has a solid enough groove and taps a bit into the energy of a band like Of Mice & Men, lyrically this track just seems a bit backwards in terms of the progression the band is sure to be making or at least sustaining in “Shadow Moses”. It should also be noted that it structurally feels quite predictable and dare I say too straightforward for a band that shows they want to progress past the deathcore and metalcore pigeonholing they’ve encountered for three albums now and unto something with a bit more substance.
That being said, “Antivist” is not the direction we’d been hoping Sempiternal to take, as it feels more like a cut that should have existed on Suicide Season than on a collection two albums later. Even as a pretty mild fan, I’ve plenty reason to be disappointed at this one.
