The news that Gallows had enlisted Alexisonfire vocalist Wade MacNeil was met with mixed reviews. Many wondered how the punky-melodic vocals of MacNeil could replace Frank Carter’s signature yells. The speculation ends today with the release of “True Colours,” a short snippet of what’s to come.
Rather than utilizing his raspy melodies from AOF and Black Lungs, MacNeil unveils an abrasive scream like nothing we’ve heard from the man. The intensity and aggressiveness here is turned up a notch from Carter’s shouts in Grey Britain, at times resembling Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die fame.
Musically, the song is fast and heavy; a true testament to the Gallows style. Like to vocals, it seems like the instrumentation took an adrenaline shot, opting for a sound rooted more in hardcore than Brit-punk. The chordy and rough guitars make for a great mosher that will definitely get people moving.
With all the news and hype surrounding the band, it is good to see that they are quick to deliver even the smallest of morsels to their fans. If this song is any indication, Gallows has not only survived, but upgraded. The song us up for a FREE download, so get it while its hot right here.
