Impending Doom: There Will Be Violence

The first thoughts that came to mind when I listened to Impending Doom’s new album were that it’s hard and fast. Add harsh yelling and eerie whispers to that, and you have the essence of There Will Be Violence.
With three full-lenghts under their belt, There Will Be Violence as a whole is most similar to their previous release, The Serpent Servant. Impending Doom originally started more in the death metal genre with their EP, The Sin and Doom of Godless Men and full-length, Nailed. Dead. Risen. But for their last, The Serpant Servant, and most recent, There Will Be Violence, Impending Doom has seem to have found their sweet spot in the deathcore genre. Read More »

3 of the Week (6/14)

“My friend has never heard a good breakdown. What should I show them?” This is something I hear from friends more often than I can keep track of. I’ll be the first to admit that “Top Breakdown” lists are extremely overdone, and completely void of a sense of novelty. Nevertheless, they are my favorite part of any metal genre, and a great way to intensify a track, express passion, and liven shows. The songs I’ve selected for this week each have insanely heavy parts, and are each unique for certain reasons. One thing they share is that they will give you goose bumps from head to toe before the track comes to an end. Read More »

Interview: Alex Hofmann of Fallujah

I recently was able to chat with vocalist Alex Hofmann of one of my favorite unsigned metal bands, Fallujah. Alex gave us a bit on insight on the upcoming release, what makes them tick and what we can expect from them in the future.
Mind Equals Blown: Are you guys working on any new music?
Alex Hoffman: Yes we are currently writing our full length, were taking this opportunity (now that were not touring) to finish this album up and hopefully have it out by winter. Read More »

Ronnie James Dio passes away at 67

Metal legend, Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Dio, Heaven and Hell, etc) lost his battle to stomach cancer early this morning. An internet rumor started last night that he had passed, but his wife and manager, Wendy Dio confirmed otherwise, stating he was “doing poorly, but not dead yet”. On Ronnie’s official site, the following statement was made.
“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”
- Wendy Dio
She then asks any fans to “leave your condolences on facebook”
Ronnie was 67 years old, and was truly a legend. Metal would not be what it is today without him.

Official Statement from Dimmu Borgir
DIMMU BORGIR responds to harsh comments left by now ex-members.
“Man, what a shit storm response!
Too bad all the shit is thrown in the wrong direction.
Oh well, what else could we expect? We don’t blame you as you still haven’t heard the other side, the band’s side. We have put up with unprofessionalism and bad live performances for years. This couldn’t be ignored anymore as we firmly believe the fans deserve the best on both records and shows.
First of all, a big thank you to those who still have their own mind intact and believe in the music of the band and not only judge by what is falsely accused in statements posted online by recently fired members based on their ignorance, bitterness and greed. A quite normal human response when being disappointed but we hope you kept in mind the saying that goes: ‘Those who scream the loudest have the most to hide…’

Dimmu Borgir loses two members.
From Lambgoat:
Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir has officially confirmed the departures of both Vortex (bass) and Mustis (keyboards). The group has issued the following:
“We regret to inform you that we have parted ways with both Vortex and Mustis. However, we do want to make it perfectly clear that the creative force in the band is highly intact, perhaps even more so than ever. With that being said, we’re currently working on our next album and are excited to start a new chapter in the legacy that is Dimmu Borgir.”
