Tropical House DJs and Their Tropical Drink Counterparts

By Tanya Dracolakis @Dracolakis · On November 6, 2015

Summer may be far behind us, but there’s one way to keep a sunny attitude in full gear year-round. You guessed it: Tropical House. Regardless of the climate, if you appreciate chill beats and saxophone solos, then put down the PSL and pour yourself a drink in a hollowed-out pineapple.

Here are some of 2015’s top tropical house acts, and the drink that best suits their style.

KYGO: MARGARITA

You’ve heard his remix of “Sexual Healing” about as many times as you’ve been to Taco Tuesday since its release. Kygo’s ubiquitous tracks are the ones you throw on when you’re in a tropical mood, but don’t want to go full-blown fishbowl.

THOMAS JACK:  PIÑA COLADA

Restraint? Never heard of it. Thomas Jack’s quintessential dancey sound isn’t made for sipping, it’s something in which you partake once you’ve succumbed to trop house. Don’t worry, the umbrella in your drink will fully shade you from your haters.

VICEROY: CUBA LIBRE

When you’re here to fucking party and don’t want to deviate from the classics, Viceroy (aka “The Sultan of Summer”) is your man. His “summertime, all the time” attitude just needs a wedge of lime and any available dance floor.

SAM FELDT: MOJITO

It goes down easy; it’s smooth; it’s almost too saccharine to stomach. While Feldt’s remixes are light and relatively low in alcohol content, it is highly recommend you neither operate a vehicle nor text your ex while consuming this music or beverage.

SNBRN: MAI TAI

Kevin Andrew Chapman, aka SNBRN, touts his tunes as “sunset house” for a reason: Transitioning easily from day to night, he’s the little black dress of the trop house world. His “Sexual Healing” remix reeks as much of future house as your pores do of rum after inhaling a Tiki drink.

THERO: TEQUILA SUNRISE

Thero may barely be old enough to buy his own drinks, but this artist has mastered the sound of sunshine. His tracks are sweet and fruity, and exactly what you need after the shrill noise of your alarm clock. I’ll take two.
