Khalid Celebrates Life in Kansas City on Free Spirit Tour

By Katie Rich @richlkatie · On July 24, 2019

As time progresses, it seems that music prodigies are breaking records younger and younger. At just 21 years old, contemporary R&B artist Khalid is on a cross-country summer tour in celebration of his sophomore album Free Spirit. The eve of his release in April, Khalid also dropped a feature film coinciding with the record in select movie theaters across the country, also called “Free Spirit”. As the film and album coexisted beautifully together, the Free Spirit Tour is no different.

The tour production harmonizes with the aesthetic that is produced visually, audibly, and empathetically. An arena at nearly-full capacity, filled with an audience from varying backgrounds, melded together for an evening of embracing the ideologies of Khalid’s record- celebrating life and freeing yourself from the jaws of your past. Dancers, an ambient lighting setup, and the energy produced from the audience gave the perfect definition of what an ideal summer night feels like.
