The Associated Press has confirmed the death of pop superstar Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson) on Thursday April 21, 2016. His body was discovered Thursday morning at his Paisley Park estate. The cause of death is currently unknown, however it is speculated that it is linked to his recent flu and subsequent hospitalization on April 15th in Illinois.

Prince leaves behind an influential collection of eclectic pop music. Prince’s music incorporated a wide breadth of genres, including rock, funk, hip hop and jazz. His beloved albums included his breakout 1999 and Purple Rain, which also went on to become a cult classic film.
Prince ranks as one of the best selling musicians of all time and had a significant presence in pop culture. Dave Chapelle notably played Prince in the now famous Charlie Murphy True Hollywood Story sketch wherein Charlie Murphy described the night he played basketball with Prince. Prince went on to make a screenshot of that sketch the album cover for his album Breakfast Can Wait.
