The Scoop: Foo Fighters are to tour South Africa.
The Spin: South Africa has been graced by numerous rock bands in the past tours and this may be the biggest news for rock fans since Biffy Clyro played at RAMfest earlier this year, or maybe since the announcement of Wolfmother to play Oppikoppi in August.
All that is known so far is that the Foo Fighters have set up a website with the Foo Fighters logo shaded in with the colours of the South African flag and “All My Life” playing. Full details are being announced at 4PM on 5FM.
The band’s eighth studio album is due for release in November 2014, and will be preceded by the premiere of Sonic Highways, a Dave Grohl-directed episodic series documenting the eight-city odyssey during which the album was recorded. If Grohl’s 2013 directorial debut, the Grammy-winning Sound City, was a celebration of the human element in music, Sonic Highways is, in its director’s words, “a chronicling of a journey to unravel the fabric of our musical identity… not only the making of our most ambitious album… Sound City on steroids.”
This is the first time that Foo Fighters shall ever play in South Africa, and may possibly be once in a life-time experience. With 20 years of good and proper rock anthems to get through, these are not dates to be missed.
Tickets on sale on Thursday 26 June 2014 at www.computicket.co.za.
