The last we left Incubus was with their 2015 EP, Trust Fall. Although a small offering, it showed the band venture back into the styles of music that fans were used to like the title track and different, sexier songs like “Make Out Party.”
While we thought that the band was plugging away at a side b to the ep, it turns out that they were recording a new album. ‘Nimble Bastard,’ the single off of Incubus’ forthcoming album 8, recalls a lot of what many older fans loved about the band. Their last full-length album, 2011’s If Not Now, When?, showed a softer, more mellow side of the band.
‘Nimble Bastard’ is an all-out rock record. It’s a display of heavier alternative rock highlighted by the percussion of José Pasillas II and guitar from Mike Einziger. Think of songs like “Sick Sad Little World” from 2004’s A Crow Left of the Murder… and this seems where some of the music inspiration might have a place marker.
The group will release their eighth album on April 21 through Island Records. Listen to the new song below. Also, check out there interview about the song and new album on KROQ as well. Incubus will be heading out on tour this summer with Jimmy Eat World, Judah & the Lion, and Atlas Genius. Visit the band’s website for ticket information.
