The Scoop: A new wave of artists have been announced to perform at Electric Vines.
The Spin: Night Natives shall be making their debut live performance at Electric Vines. The two musicians behind the band are familiar faces. With a decade of live shows, album triumphs and radio hits between them, Dale Orchard & Denholm Harding have evolved. Denholm Harding from Just Jinjer and Dale Orchard who has played bass in Easy Tiger, Plush and Fevertree have created a new sound. With Dale on bass and taking a lead on vocals for the first time, and Denholm on drums and B/V’s, the sound is honest and authentic. You get the feeling that they’ve sidestepped a perfectly polished finish for the raw honesty that this kind of self-driven project lays bare. The bands penchant for blending catchy commercialism with haunting reflection might just catch you by surprise.
Newcomer on the South African scene, the catchy and contagious Majozi, has also been put onto the line-up. Opening for Gangs of Ballet and Zebra and Giraffe on their Best Day Ever tour, as well as for South African raised international artist Yoav, his debut EP Marvelous Light, rapidly climbed the iTunes charts reaching no. 9 within a very short space of time and no. 1 in the singer/songwriter category. His debut music video for “The River” has just been released and has already attracted a lot of attention, and been play-listed on 5FM. His genre can best be described as Indie-folk, but there is more to his music, with subtle influence of electro and country. He is bound to be an artists that gets your feet moving.
DJ Chris Taylor adds a bit of an electro to the line-up wit his uplifting blend of progressive house and electro. In March 2012 Taylor was announced as the winner of the Avicii SA Tour DJ competition and has since supported some of the top DJ’s/Producers in the world including Hardwell, Dannic, R3HAB, Alex Kenji, Yolanda Be Cool and more. Taylor has also featured at some of the biggest festivals in Africa, including: Fun In The Sun, Neon Run, Victoria Falls Carnival, One World New Years Festival 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, Neverland Festival and many more
DJ Matt Blitz adds some deep house and techno to an already phenomenal line-up. He has been at the helm of a few of Cape Town’s most loved club brands; I Love Digital, Spy Deluxe, Pump That Dirty Groove and most recently BASSMINT. He has been billed on some of the most respected line ups in South Africa, most notably Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF), Rocking The Daisies, Synergy LIVE, Kinky Disco, Make Believe, Toy Toy and Wolfkop Weekender.
What do INXS, AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Crowded House, The Saints, Kylie Minogue, Men At Work and Sun City have in common? They have all respectively won the Australian Best Music Video of the Year accolade, and Electric Vines attendees have the chance of watching Sun City perform for their first time in South Africa.
Sun City, Night Natives, Majozi, Chris Taylor and Matt Blitz are joining the already stellar list of talent secured to perform: Prime Circle, Matthew Mole, MonArk, Goodluck, Pascal and Pearce, Just Jinjer, Gangs of Ballet, Jeremy Lopps, Jesse Clegg and MC Cath Grenfell.
