On October 10th Brooklyn native Gabriel Garzón-Montano opened for Kali Uchis at the infamous 9:30 club in Washington, DC. Montano opened the show to a room full of eager listeners, gliding across the stage with every song he performed. He introduced himself in both English and Spanish, the Spanish inspiring screams from teenage girls across the venue. The set he performed was hypnotizing, an incredible combination of funk and pop that is not easily achieved with vocals that were even more awe inspiring live than they were on record. Being the only opening act, I was hoping for a longer set from Montano as did many others in the audience. You can check out his latest LP Jardin on Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play.
