Rochester rockers Sirens & Sailors are currently one of the most requested bands in Cleveland. Doug Court (drums), Todd Golden (guitar/vocals), Kyle Bihrle (vocals), Jimm Lindsley (guitar), and Steve Goupil (bass/vocals) are finding perfect happiness in being able to reach fans through touring as much as possible.
The biggest goals are within your reach. Sirens & Sailors have met many of the goals they set forth in the beginning. Two of the most exciting accomplishments they have achieved so far are touring Europe and playing Warped Tour this summer. But some goals are not found in the places they play. Bihrle says, “Just being able to sustain and be a band for as long as we can. Being able to keep doing it and keep growing, I would say that is the biggest accomplishment we have.” Bihrle grew up in a musical family, participated in theatre productions, and took drum lessons in school. He is a musician, because that is where his passion lies.
You don’t always get what you want. From the wildly popular new album, Rising Moon: Setting Sun, one song resonates with fans worldwide. Lyrics from “Undefeated” say, “If you want it, come and get it/You talk too much, but don’t live it/Just another running mouth wasting air to breathe/You act like you deserve it when you know damn well you haven’t earned it.” Bihrle grew up in a home where he worked hard for what he wanted. Earning your way in the world lends more meaning to the achievements and possessions you acquire. It is disheartening to see others take advantage of opportunities when they feel as if they do not have to put forth an effort to have them. Often the work it takes to achieve a goal is as meaningful as the accomplishment itself. Bihrle admits that you do not always get what you want and says, “Working hard for something and not getting it is also something that teaches you. It would be great if I always succeeded at everything I’ve done, but if I didn’t fail once in a while, I wouldn’t learn.” No matter what the outcome, working hard is always beneficial.
Youth is inspiring. Musicians find inspiration in their experiences, which fans can relate to. One of the most profound sources of insight and encouragement for Bihrle came in the form of his ten-year-old nephew. He describes it as, “I have to say that the biggest thing that inspired me this week was my nephew…to see him grow up and turn into a little human being is quite inspiring.” Bihrle is the sole uncle in his nephew’s life, and as such feels a great pride and responsibility in being a role model.
