How many people reading this remember Like the Stars? Back in the summer of 2009, I remember going to Bamboozle, where almost no one knew the New Jersey-based pop punk band that was playing on stage. Chalked words surrounded the pavement telling concert-goers that they’d get free kisses when the band met at their merch table. What struck me the most about this band is that they gave homage to Jersey throughout their songs. They sang about the shore, bringing back specific memories for me and connecting the songs to me just a little more. In 2010, the band released their first full length album, The Guidelines of Love & Lies. Like the Stars had quite the run, sharing the stage with 3OH!3, Cobra Starship, New Found Glory, The Wonder Years and Sparks the Rescue.
However, in 2012, the band tweeted, “We’re calling it quits. Unfortunately, we’ve reached a point in our band that we cannot move past, and it’s deterring us from continuing to play. Every awesome experience in this band can’t be summed up into words. Thanks to everyone that supported us throughout everything. This was my life and I love everyone that was a part of this.” Thus, it was the end of Like the Stars. No matter how long it’s been, their music still inspire listeners, even when they haven’t listened in a few years – cough, cough: I’m talking about myself.
So, here’s a little #TBT to one of their best songs, if my opinion counts:
