Music has always bridged the gap between people, forming connections that are made that much more strong because of this shared admiration. Certain songs can bring two people back to a moment in time, certain artists can invoke emotions that are so intimately shared, certain albums can serve as the soundtrack to the journey taken together. Here at Mind Equals Blown, we have always been bound together by our unanimous love for music and the impact it’s had on each of us, forming a bond between each other from across the world and working together to share our passion. Some of us have become close friends, confidantes, and, as of September 24th, 2016, two of our writers have become husband and wife.
To write about Jarrod and Chelsey Church and the unbreakable connection they have is like daydreaming; it happened so effortlessly, so fluidly, and plays out like a true fairytale. She was a writer; he was her editor. For years they worked alongside one another, knowing of the other but never really reaching out to one another on a non-professional basis. After both getting out of serious relationships, they began talking more about music, work, and life, building a friendship that they never expected to become more. So when Jarrod took a risk and flew out to see Chelsey for the first time, he adamantly tried to convince himself the whole time that this was just a casual encounter between peers. But that all changed when they laid eyes on each other and the inevitable conclusion sunk in: they were looking into the eyes of their future spouse.
Within a few months they were engaged and planning their futures with one another, without a single doubt in their mind. Over the next two years of wedding planning, apartment hunting, and adding a new addition to the family in the form of their puppy, Dexter, their love only grew stronger. Seeing the way they look at each other, respect one another, and truly care to immerse themselves in the other’s lives is something that is incomparable to the more hasty relationships of today, an unbreakable connection that many spend their whole lives searching for.
When I first met Jarrod, I was an amateur photographer with little to no experience who desperately wanted to pursue music photography. Introduced to each other based on our shared obsession with Paramore, he agreed to check out some of my work to see if I would be a good fit for the MEB team. Without hesitation he welcomed me aboard, opening my world up to enormous opportunities to harness my craft. With each shoot or review posted, he and Chelsey would comment with words of motivation, pushing me to test my own limits.
They were constantly supporting me, so when they asked me to take their engagement photos, I was thrilled to be a part of this journey they were taking together. I met Chelsey for the first time the morning of the shoot, and for me it immediately clicked: I was in the presence of something I had rarely ever seen. I’ve photographed thousands of people in my career, but I’ve never had a photo session that felt so natural. It was so easy to capture how they felt about each other, so easy to see just what made them so perfectly matched. It was so much more than just similar music tastes at that point, this was unadulterated love.
Being asked to also photograph their wedding day is one of the greatest honors I’ve ever had. As a photographer, my main goal has always been to encapsulate completely truthful moments that the world needs to see, and the unity of these two incredible individuals and their two families was undoubtably one of them. I have never been in the presence of something so totally honest and beautiful, from the look in Jarrod’s eyes when he first saw his bride making her way down the aisle, to the mixing of two beers from their hometowns in a touching unity ceremony; from the tears Chelsey shed as they held each other and intimately whispered their vows into one another’s ear, to the kiss that proclaimed them husband and wife. Just like the two of them together, the entire experience was perfect, right down to the playlist they put together for the ceremony, which included the bands that had brought them together in the first place, like Alkaline Trio, The Devil Wears Prada, A Day to Remember, and so many others.
I speak for each of us here at Mind Equals Blown when I say that this site is truly something special. Without it, we all would not have met some of our closest friends, I would not be a photographer, and Jarrod and Chelsey would never have found each other, the missing piece that truly makes them whole. They compliment each other in every way, from their shared love for a good brew to their laid-back demeanor that make them so easy to fall in love with. It’s been a real privilege to have seen this relationship grow and flourish within our small MEB community, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for the lovely couple on their nuptials. There are no two people more perfectly matched, no two people who love and cherish each other so deeply, and I am so grateful to have met them, worked with them, and now, commemorated their devotion to each other.
Below are some of the most precious moments from the ceremony, from their first look at each other as the bride descended down the aisle to the congratulatory cigar. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Church from everyone here at Mind Equals Blown, we love you guys and we are wishing you all of the happiness in the world!
