Although I was not able to cover Emarosa at the Nashville Vans Warped Tour date, I was able to ask frontman Bradley Walden a few questions! We talked about the future of the band and how the transition from past members to the new permanent members has gone.
MEB: I covered your album release show almost a year ago in Nashville, TN, how’s the ride been so far?
Sometimes intense, sometimes slow. It’s taken a long time to get back on our feet. You can’t be gone for 4 years and expect to jump back into the same place. There were certain steps that had to be made and still going forward need to be made. Overall it’s been very rewarding to see all the hard work pay off.
MEB: Versus proved to be the most successful Emarosa album yet, reaching 61 on the Billboard Top 200. Has the writing for the next album started?
It has, ER and myself have written a few songs acoustically just testing the waters. The gloves are off, we are writing whatever we want to write as this band has always done. Versus was a great stepping stone for the band but I genuinely believe we’ve just started to hit our stride.
MEB: Is there a possibility of Emarosa and Squid the Whale ever touring together?
It’s highly unlikely. Schedules alone are a nightmare to try and line up.
MEB: I’ve read a lot about the major changes in the band members, has that been relatively smooth or have there been many issues?
It was pretty smooth so far. Some people has just grown in different directions. You’re in a band that’s stuck for 4 years your life tends to take a different turn and it’s hard to hold on. Some people were just ready to let go and move on with their life. The energy in the band is the best that it has ever been. There’s no questioning what page we’re all on or if there’s a dark cloud hanging over our head. Everything is going amazingly well right now.
MEB: You tweeted almost a week ago, “This is the best Emarosa has ever been. Bottom line.” Can you tell me more?
It says it all. Musically we are all proud of what we are making, personality wise we are all clicking. It’s a family now and a family that is making what we believe is the best music of our career. Emarosa is a band that makes music we want to make and I believe on all ends of the spectrum we are surpassing our previous efforts.
MEB: You’ve been on Vans Warped Tour for a couple weeks now and I’ve heard nothing but good things about your set. How has your experience been with your set, the fans, and the packed schedules?
You said it yourself, it’s been nothing but good things. People who were unsure, people who have never heard of us. They were captivated and so were we by the response. 2015 Warped Tour is absolutely the tour in which I feel like I discovered my place in this band and found myself. We loved every minute of that tour.
MEB: Who have been some of your favorite people that you’ve gotten to know on this tour?
Alvarez Kings, Major League, Jule Vera, Matchbook Romance, The Kenneths, there are so many to name. Lots of great people on the tour who are there for the right reasons and are positive influences on the tour and it’s attendees.
MEB: Worldwide, where do you want to play most?
Right now, UK. We have been asked time and time to come back. I’ve never been and I’m ready for them to see us.
MEB: If you could dabble in any music genre other than your own, what would it be?
I think that’s an easy call. Pop/R&B for sure.
