The Scoop: Experimental singer-songwriter Björk released the much veiled music video for “Black Lake.” The video was originally commissioned specifically for her Museum of Modern Art residency wherein it was projected in a dual-monitored theater with multiple spatially oriented speakers that encouraged visitors to physically walk through the space in order to hear isolated components of the track. The artist has now released the video on her YouTube channel for public viewing.
Largely considered the ultimate break up song of her most recent album Vulnicura, this video represents her personal struggle with her divorce from Matthew Barney. While bouncing off of rock walls in Iceland’s rocky natural landscape, Björk shouts pained but honest lyrics including, “Family was always our sacred mutual mission // Which you abandoned.”
