The 2017 iteration of the Grammys are fast approaching. Due to take place on Sunday, this bodes to be a very big night for Chance the Rapper. Not only is he performing this year, Chance is nominated for seven Grammy awards for 2016’s Coloring Book. This is truly an accomplishment given that the Chicago-born rapper is a fully independent artist.
Before the big night, Chance has released a new video for the track, “Same Drugs.” The song itself is an metaphor for things that Chance does not relate to with a certain girl from his childhood as he explained in his Reddit AMA.
The video is simplistic as it initially is Chance, a piano, and a puppet singing together with a vintage filter. There’s an overall nostalgic feel that coincides with the topic of the song. While “Same Drugs” touches on how we reminisce about growing apart from things in our youth, the latter half of the video shows the video itself is shot by puppets. It’s a nice metaphor of as we age, we always keep that piece of youth.
