From the band that brought us hits like “Sweetness,” “The Middle,” “Pain,” “Kill,” “Big Casino,” and many more… comes their newest single “I Will Steal You Back” from their upcoming album, Damage. Jimmy Eat World is a gem in a coal mine. While their competitors and fellow musicians within their pop-punk/alternative genre usually fade in and out, JEW is a timeless music-making machine that has dominated since 1994 and hasn’t stumbled even for a moment.
Their drummer Zach Lind and Tom Linton – one of the most talented rhythm guitarists in his genre – combine their powers in a really exciting and punchy way in this song. As for their bassist Rick Burch and their extraordinary lead singer Jim Adkins, I was left unsatisfied. I sat down for a four-course meal, and it felt like I only ate three of them.
Now, that’s not to say that Rick and Jim are by any means bad or losing it. Jimmy Eat World is known for their anthems that rock loud and hard, while maintaining a slew of softer songs that tickle the ear and draw you in for more listening. If you ask me, it’s genius. They fed me my three courses, but left me wanting dessert.
Ultimately, it is an enjoyably energetic song that I would suggest any Jimmy Eat World fan listen to. Their eighth studio album, Damage is set for a June 11th release date. As a life-long fan, I can’t wait.
